I have use Stewart on a number of heritage/restoration projects. I was impressed by his level of knowledge, especially for older listed buildings and his ability to execute such craftsmanship with such attention to detail. If you're looking for a specialist roofer to work with clay, slate, lead and lime then this is your man. Traditional roofing done the right way. he also came up with some really interesting ideas for certain details that we hadn't even thought about. No hesitation in recommending Stewart . Top craftsman.
Very professional service. Completed plastering and joinery service in a basement conversion to an excellent high quality standard. Fitting of skirting boards and built an integrated cupboard unit to provide discreet storage in the room whilst disguising pipes and the boiler. Stewart also levelled the stairway and corrected plastering which had been done by an alternative provider to a poor standard. A good job well done
We called about our chimney which had been leaking for several years. We had 3 other roofers round to fix the leak and they either couldn't find it or did a bad repair. These guys not only told us exactly what the problem was, but completely fixed the leak which was down to poor lead flashing and a badly pointed brickwork. Top job a1
Stewart undertook extensive and various work on my property including plastering with traditional fat lime, stonemasonry, joinery, leadwork, slate roofing and much more besides. His enthusiasm and sensitivity were always in evidence and his workmanship was exemplary. As well as this he was always great company and completely reliable. He would be my first recommendation to anyone needing work doing.
The first job was substantial reroofing at our property, which included much slate work and also specialist lead roofing over one bay window and complete renovation of another (removing bad slate job and restoring to high spec lead roof of corrected pitch). Stewart's lead work is second to none! Later internal work included construction of a sizeable mezzanine floor, installation of staircase to it, and necessary alteration of roof timbers; also the insulation, plasterboarding, and finishing of the ceiling. At this time replacement bedroom PVC windows were installed. Subsequent external work included replacing old transparent roofing with slate (installing several velux skylights). Stewart also managed the reduction of ground level against the back of our property, construction of the necessary retaining wall (beautifully finished as a feature in reclaimed brick) together with strikingly-angled garden steps and path. New PVC windows and door (including lead finished dormer) were installed, together with all necessary guttering and drainage, and the exterior was cement rendered. All work was carried out to an extremely high standard, and I have no hesitation in recommending Stewart for any building/renovation job, particularly where care has to be taken working with an older property.
