South End, West Palm Beach, FL Based on my experience, I would highly warn against any dealings with Al Pestana & Pestana Roofing Company, Inc. We have been chasing Pestana for years. Pestana is NOT a person or company I would trust after he lied to me & the Inspector, duped me into a wrongful payment, claims he did not review the permitted plans, did shoddy work, installed 1ply instead of 2ply materials., roof not adhered and can be lifted by hand, wrong drip edge, unapproved wrong materials, installed not per plan, installed out of order, not per manufacturers specifications, by-passed inspections, cut corners, altered design, caused extensive costly damages, delays, water intrusion and water coming through new hi-hats, eave drip metal is on top of base sheet instead of on top of mopped plies as required by manufacturers specifications, exposed rusted nails, wrappers not removed prior to installation, flashing issues, made false promises, false accusations about code requirements, refused to provide evidence of such claims, damages to other completed work, ignored communications, refuses to warranty his new roof warranty and ignored the 558 Notice. I coordinated two independent roofing consultants, a reputable roofer and a Roofing Report that proves wrong doing by Pestana. Pestana's insurance company has done nothing, both have made us suffer while our house has severe damages. My homeowner’s insurance denied our claim because Pestana installed wrong materials, not enough materials, out of order and not per manufacturers specifications. We need to take off Pestana’s shoddy new roof and install a new roof from a “real” professional. Unfortunately, we hired GC Steve Cury of SEC Construction who also ran off with our money and left us with severe property damage and defects. Chief Building Official, Robert Brown had to manage our project because of the severe damages. Cury sued Pestana and approximately 15 of his subcontractors. Cury directed and watched his subcontractors, none of them finished one thing, all caused delays, were overpaid, failed to follow plans and all abandoned the project and Cury was the first to run off. Cury hired the worst subcontractors for our job, they were financially unstable, some were not insured to work on residential properties and one was going through bankruptcy. Cury never shared contract details, bids, back up billing & I didn’t know roofing materials were stock piled on the roof for months. Cury confirmed a 10-year roof warranty, but their paperwork states a 5-year warranty. Both refuse to stand behind their work and their warranty. Cury & Pestana deviated from our permitted plans without my knowledge Cury & Pestana made no effort to redo their noncompliant work or stop the roof leaks per our warranty. Who would want to work with a company that refuses to honor & stand behind their work, contract & warranty when you can find a company with integrity who will. I recommend hiring a third party to inspect work because you never know what is being covered up. In construction it is always a civil matter and the homeowner will pay $400-1,200 per hour while the bad contractor has insurance appointed counsel.
