Our roof was just terrible. It gets the full, southern exposure to the Maryland summers, so half the roof looked 20 years old and the other half looked 120 years old. It had gotten so even in a mild wind, shingles would blow off like black potato chips and how it wasn’t leaking, must have only been a miracle. Getting quotes . . . Um! . . . is not fun. I was going to say something else but, being polite and all. #1 called so many times to make arrangements over getting an estimate that it was annoying and then, they didn’t show up. #2 was - let’s just say - a jaw dropping experience and I’ll stop there. #3 was not a charm even though, he thought he was. He let me know that not only could I not afford his roof but, I was no where near his social class either. Well you know, who cares! I’ve been a grunt my entire life- true that! Therefore, I cannot afford extra money just for snobbery sake and, at the pearly gates, God’ll still like me better. #4 Horizons Unlimited was SUCH A CHARM!!! Bill, the owner of the company, is born and bred locally so he not only knows the area and its weather but, he just starts in talking to you like you’re family. I was instantly happy with everything he said about the job, especially with not just slapping another roof on top of the mess that was there. It was getting dicey as to when the buckets would have to be pulled out so, we had a new roof before the next weekend was over and, even when there was a mix-up on my part, before the end of the week we had the most amazingly beautiful gutters at a length and pitch that, well . . . kinda defies gravity. I’m so happy with the whole Horizons experience, that I feel guilty now, and need to go pressure wash the rest of the house and work on the gardens. “House Makeover - Yay!!!”

I contacted HU to see about getting some siding damage repaired and get a written estimate for an insurance claim. I first called them and setup an appointment to meet with someone on a Friday. I leave work that Friday to go and meet with the person. Only to find a voicemail from Sandy saying that the person Bill had already gone by my home and looked at the damage earlier that day. Never saw anyone in person. I then have to spend the next 3 weeks calling Sandy to try and get the estimate. Only to get a voicemail now from Sandy telling me that for Bill to even provide me an estimate he wants $375.00 dollars upfront. So here I am no closer to get anything done and they wasted my time.

Excellent roofers, salesman and workers, but subcontracted to subpar finisher and painter. Have been waiting almost a week to have fixed. Correcting a wrong must be a priority and communication is critical.... and theyre lacking now. Need work done for company and now will have to move furniture back in, and then out again and eventually back in.

I had a leak in my second bathroom. The leak was either the toilet or shower, but couldn't be identified without some demo. I remodel the bathroom to address the leak. We got 3 estimates, none of them broke down the labor and materials, but I picked Horizon. I signed the contract, and picked out materials and finishes. The day the work was scheduled to start the guys were 2 hours late with no phone call. The project was progressing until Mike reached out about picking a 42" vanity, the measurement was taken during the estimate. Mike could not find a 42" vanity, and in the color I selected at their office. He suggested I go with a 36" vanity. I did not want to downsize, so I asked him to keep looking. Mike sent some options which included the same cabinet they had just demoed, all options would add additional costs, even the one they had just torn out. I agreed to the 36" vanity to avoid additional costs and repurchasing the cabinet I already had. I asked how the smaller vanity would work with the space and plumbing, in order to keep things balanced the plumbing would have to be moved which would cost extra money. I called Bill Sr. and asked why I would pay extra to move the plumbing instead of just getting the 42" vanity. Bill agreed, Mike found 3 vanities and sent them and included the overage cost for each. I reviewed my options, and noticed they were similar in cost to the 36" vanities that would not have cost extra. I shared this, and Mike apologized and said the 36" would have cost more too, but he forgot to mention the overage. Horizon should have done some research of the cost of 42" vanities and this should have been reflective in the estimate. I wanted to move forward, so I found a vanity, and sent it to Mike. I picked out the paint color, the towel bar, the toilet paper holder, and a vanity mirror. The mirror was over budget, I had no idea what the budget was because the breakdown was never provided. The allotment was $100. I requested a mirror that was framed out, and fit the space during the estimate. I looked for something within budget, and there were NO options. I emailed Mike, and he sent me the standard medicine cabinet. I let him know it wasn't framed, and I asked for this up front. Horizon agreed to pay the $79 difference, but sent an email to demand payment for $350 in upgraded tile and approximately $400 for the vanity. I had already paid the $350, and the $400 for the vanity was never shared. I had to ask my husband to step in because I was leaving for vacation, so he asked to meet Bill Sr. to discuss. Bill stated I agreed to the $400. My husband asked Bill to show him where I agreed to the charge, and he could not find anything where the $400 was mentioned or me agreeing. The meeting ended with an agreement to finish the work as planned, and we would not pay the $400. The project is now complete, and my bathroom is beautiful. However, the water stain on my kitchen ceiling that was the entire reason for the project was given one coat of paint that did not match the rest of the ceiling. The stain has bled through, and the rest of the ceiling on my entire first floor must be painted because they did not match the paint. The guys that came to our house to do the work were outstanding, they kept my house clean, and they were extremely professional. My biggest concern with Horizon was their estimate process, Mike and Bill Sr.'s communication, and the repair to the kitchen ceiling. I would not do business with Horizon again based on my first experience.
