John Halliday and his brother Alex are classic con-men. On September 1, 2016, John came on site to look at our slate roof. He gave me his assessment, pointing out everything that he thought was wrong about the prior repairs that were done. He convinced me that the roof needed no more than 100 slates to be fit to last us the rest of our lives. John told me that he doesn't take deposits, because he refuses to take any money from clients until they are totally satisfied with his work. Based on that assurance, and what I thought was his expertise, I came to an agreement with John regarding our roof repair. When the actual slate roofer who John (unbeknownst to me) subcontracts to do slate repairs came out to work on our roof, he said that he couldn't finish the work as described in our agreement, because the roof was in need of replacement, not repair. After long discussions, which included replacing a copper gutter that had been damaged by one of their ladders, John Halliday left me with the following three options: 1) Accept the 100 slate repair of the original agreement, and get two to three years of durability out of our roof. 2) Agree to installation of another 400 slates to minimally repair the worst section of roof, for twice the cost of the original agreement, and get ten to fifteen years of durability out of our roof. (This was his new recommended course of action.) 3) Replace half the roof for seven times the original agreement for our roof repair. I told John that I couldn't make decisions on the order thousands, or tens of thousands of dollars, without consulting my wife, so I told him that I'd call him back to let him know of our course of action. When I spoke to John via telephone about our decision to seek out other contractors regarding our roof, he threatened to come to our house and remove the few tiles that had been replaced thus far, assuring me that the roof would then leak. He then said he would settle for roughly half the dollar amount originally agreed upon to avoid such an inconvenience for us. When I called into question that half the amount of work had been done, based on the number of slates that had yet to be installed, he threatened to put a lien on my house. Then he began cursing at me, using vulgarities to call me names, and using vulgarities to describe my relationship with my wife. When I told John that he shouldn't speak to me that way he said, "I can talk to you any (expletive) way that I want to, because you're not (expletive) paying me, (expletive)! I hung up on him at that point. On September 7, 2016, John Halliday contacted me directly by telephone to threaten me–telling me that he had a lawyer, and that he would sue me for the full value of our original agreement, unless I agreed to remove my original Yelp review (listed above) and that I canceled the complaint I sent to the better business bureau regarding his professional misdeeds. I had no comment to John Halliday on the telephone except to tell him that I understood his threat. Because my original Yelp review is completely accurate and truthful, I see no reason, other than his threats, to remove them. If zero stars is a rating, this guy and this company deserve it.
I have NEVER ever been treated so rudely. I have a buyer purchasing a home - we are trying to determine if the seller or the buyer will be paying for a new roof. I needed a quote. He missed the appointment but was giving me pricing over the phone. I was completely fine with that. I needed the information. Once he heard I was a Realtor, he went off on me about using him as a pawn - completely berating me telling me what kind of person I am. Saying "how's it feel to be treated the way you deserve?!" Well John, you don't know me. I am a really great agent. I am a wonderful wife and mother to two amazing kids. I chair the largest fundraiser in AA County for a children's organization. I also spend countless hours working with these ill kids. I am constantly helping other philanthropic efforts in the community. No one has ever thought ill of me or treated me so poorly. I am probably the nicest person you will ever meet. Unfortunately for you, you will never meet me bc my clients will definitely not be using you. I am literally shaking and sick at how I was just treated. Blown away.
These are the folks that spam fax machines in hopes of finding customers. Avoid.
I agree with Denise Hadden, this company is the worst and the rudest I have ever seen. I called to have an estimate for doing a simple and easy job instead, he gave me a whole lecture about how they are trying to earn a living and we give their jobs away. He wasn't only rude, but disrespectful and racist and what he did was uncalled for. I don't know this guy, never met him or talked to him once in my life but he just lashed out at me for no reason like any ignorant idiot. He told me this silly story about this guy who came from a certain country and work a whole day for $20 and advise me to hire him. What a pathetic and stupid way to run a business.
