Mid last year, Mr Brogdon came to our house to discuss a total roof replace. Its a 40 year old house, the original sheathing was not installed correctly and was damaged due to leaks. There was a lot of sun load on the brown shingles which made air conditioning difficult. Wife and I being engineers wanted 5/8 plywood put on the roof to strengthen it (live load). Mr B. suggested covering it with TPO, a commercial plastic roof product and we agreed- that would also save filling the new plywood with 2000 plus holes! This was a somewhat unusual job, we discussed it thru the Summer when I was dealing with some structural problems, and the rain prevented doing much. They finally were able to come this month; the weather gave us a break. They did the tear off and disposal of shingles, put down new plywood, covered the roof with TPO and installed very good quality edge metal on the eaves, and 'gravel stop' on the rakes to prevent water from running over the edges of the roof. This new roof is so strong that I can jump up and down on it full-force and it doesnt deflect or shake! It is absolutely waterproof and no chance of ice dams. I was on the roof daily helping (or getting in the way). The crews could not have been better, polite, courteous, friendly- their conduct was fit for a professional setting. Apparently several of them have over 20 years construction experience, and it showed. In one place, they changed the 'stagger' of the plywood to strengthen the roof. They were concerned that the work they were doing was acceptable, and often asked "is this OK' or 'is this how you want it done." At one point, they used a small truck mounted crane to suspend a pallet of plywood over the roof, instead of setting it down on the roof. Thirty some sheets of plywood is too much load. This shows attention to detail. Its nice to deal with such a competent company, and good to see a real business with an office staff. I especially want to thank Mr Brogdon for his patience, especially since this last year, for roofing, has been extremely busy as a result of the last three years drought (all the roof leaks on houses in the area showed last year...) in discussing and dealing with design changes that we had made. So my recommendation is to call Brogdons for your roofing work. They may be busy, you might get a little higher quote, but its worth it, because roof leaks do serious damage to a house- better to put the money in the roof instead of the interior.
They checked out my roof and told me what it needed, and replaced the 32 year old shingles and felt in one afternoon, including some of the plywood. They cleaned up after themselves, and we very nice. This is the same company that changed the shingles 32 years ago.
Brogdon is 1 of our best customers at my place of business. Everyone there is and has always been way more than just nice. They are all outstanding people and are always willing to go out of their way to help in any situation.
