Booked an entire day off work waiting for a phone call of when they would be arriving.. 4 o’clock came around and I had to call back to be informed they ‘probably’ would be out tomorrow. Not impressed by costumer service.
Do not hire Coastal Roofing! I hired coastal roofing to re-shingle my house. Early into the project, the crew had noticed a problem with the roof deck. I was told I needed to replace the entire roof deck for a total cost of $8000. While this issue was being discussed, the crew continued to remove shingles which fell onto the lawn because the crew neglected to lay a tarp over the grass surrounding the house. My lawn is now full of asphalt pieces and nails. I felt unnecessarily pressured by Eddie to commit to the additional $8000 charge. I asked that the work be ceased until I was able to research a solution. Once the crew had stopped removing shingles, they laid a thin tarp riddled with holes over top of the roof deck. This tarp also blocked a septic vent, forcing septic gases into my home. After researching solutions, I determined it was in my best interest to install a metal roof instead of the shingles as it would cost less that the total bill from Coastal Roofing. As Coastal Roofing does not offer metal roofing, I spoke with Eddie regarding the possibilities of seeking a new contractor that does metal roofing. At this time, he advised that he would settle and send me the bill for labour completed. While this conversation took place, it had been raining and the tarp covering my roof was pouring water into my attic. I immediately contacted Eddie and asked for assistance. On the phone I was answered with “Well the damage is done now. Do you think that I’m responsible for this? I’m not going to warranty a tarp. Find a new contractor to take care of it” (recorded telephone conversation). I was left struggling to seal the roof in the rain on my own, and now left to fix all of the water damage at my own cost. I think this is a clear indication of the integrity you will see from Coastal Roofing. Eddie then sent me a $1000 bill for the work completed. Soon after, I was sent voicemails and texts while at work demanding to collect his money. I asked for a cost breakdown of the $1000 bill and was replied with the following text message: “If this bill is not paid by the end of the day I have to add a interest rate fee on there are your contract stipulates. We need our tarp back I’m sending Andrew to get it now”. The contract stipulates a 10% fee for payment after 5 business days. This text message was received after 3 business days and I was never even provided a cost breakdown. I feel this is another clear indication of the integrity you can expect from Coastal Roofing. In consultation with numerous industry professionals, it is determined that Coastal Roofing lacked responsible business sense for the following reasons: 1. The roof deck should have been inspected prior to commencing work. If not inspected prior, the work should have stopped immediately to advise the home owner, not $1000 worth of labour. 2. The tarp installed should have sealed the roof. It was suggested that a better business would have installed a paper seal. 3. The tarp should not have blocked a septic vent, forcing septic air back into my home. I was not even notified by Coastal Roofing that my family was being exposed to this. 4. A tarp should have been laid over the yard to catch the shingles, asphalt pieces and nails. The amount of asphalt pieces will litter the lawn for years. 5. The contractor is responsible to seal the roof properly until a new contractor resumes the work and should be liable for the water damage that occurred. I have been left with the $1000 labour bill and ever growing water damage bills caused by Coastal Roofing. In addition to exposure of septic vent gases, my family is now unable to use the back yard from fear of injury to the hidden nails and debris. I recommend that you consider my experience with Coastal Roofing before making your decision.
This was such a nightmarish experience with Coastal Roofing installing a new roof for our HRM home as the roof has been leaking ever since the installation was immediately completed at various spots such as the chimney and dormer. Their warranty service is also very poor in terms of efficiency and delay as the staff came numerous times in a span of eight months but failed to find or repair the problems. The manager, Eddie, whom is in charge of operations, never returned any of our calls to discuss these issues. This great mess has also ended up with them somehow voiding our five-year warranty and it has been nearly a year since the roof started and is still badly leaking with several missing shingle pieces at various spots. Therefore, we won't ever hire Coastal Roofing again nor recommend them to anyone and really can't imagine why they deserve so many five-star ratings.
Went with Coastal last summer. A new company, but very reliable and professional. They got more than they bargained for with my roof, but managed to get it all done in a day. It's seemed to hold up so far and it looks great. Reasonable prices, much better than their competition.
Great company and I'd recommend them to anyone. They were the lowest bid of the three I looked at, and did a great job. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars was due to the delay in getting the work done on time. The reason was that the full crew wasn't available at the start of the project. Saying that, the owner updated me daily, answered questions and was very professional.
