I had my old deck redone. To be fair the new deck was put in at a reasonable time and within budget. But, as other reviewers pointed out they are unresponsive. I have been waiting for about one and a half years for them to address my mortar pointing issue. The mortar around the stone joints fell apart soon after installation. Carefree sent someone to repair the joints but he did a partial job that is falling apart. At this point they do not respond to my numerous phone calls for a meeting. If you are looking for a contractor who you can talk to and who will correct defects you may want to consider someone else.

Purchased a deck in 2012 and have nothing but problems and poor response from company. Their lack of communication during the building and after with warranty issues is almost nonexistent. To get a manager out to my house to answer questions I had to actually forbid his workers from working and stop work. It was the only way for me to even get them to talk to me on the phone or show up at the job site. There are so many other construction companies that build great decks and have good customer service; look elsewhere.

We signed up for our project in November to start in March. Carefree didn't start until June. The company has no communication with the customer about what or when they will be working. While they were working, they left our roof completely exposed with no cover and we got one of those major Colorado storms. Our house sustained major water damage. Carefree did turn that part of our damage over to their insurance company. Be very aware of added cost, as the electrical bill skyrocketed from the original estimate without anyone letting us know what was going on. Also be aware of when they tell you your job will only take a week maybe a little longer. Our patio roof took 2 months to complete. On a positive note for the company, we are happy with the final product. It was just a very frustrating process to get it completed.

Although we eventually got what we wanted and the end result was satisfactory dealing with this company was not the greatest of experiences. As other reviewers have stated this company just does not communicate with their customers. They started our project over six weeks after the end of their initial estimated start date. This was over 12 weeks after I signed the contract with them at which time they estimated their start date would be 5-6 weeks from the day I signed. Now I do understand that weather plays a factor with scheduling concrete but communicate with the customer and update them about what’s going on! How hard is that? After waiting an additional week after the first six weeks past I finally reached out and asked about their schedule because I hadn’t heard from them. I was told their was weather delays on other projects and they were looking at two weeks. Ok fine. Two more weeks and never heard from them. So every week after that I would have to follow up and ask about their shedule and when they would start our project. They never followed up with me once. Each week I was told they were looking at starting in two weeks. I emailed my contact again on a Sunday evening thinking I was just going to get a reply that they were looking at yet another two weeks and out of the blue that following Monday morning about 9am a crew shows up at our door unannounced to start demolishion of the old patio. I made comment to the lead crewman “Sure would have been nice if you guys would have given us some notice you’d be coming today.” “Oh, Yeah we get that a lot” was the reply I got back. Alright I see. Well this isn’t the guy to start anything with and take out my frustrations on and at this point I didn’t care i just want this project done so I can get this company out of my life. It’s funny because later that same Monday morning around 11:00 I get a reply to my Sunday email “ hey the crew is on the way”. I didn’t bother replying back but I was tempted to with “Yeah ok, thanks for the heads up, they started two hours ago dingdong.” From there the project went ok. We had a few concerns with some things they were doing. They did address one big issue but I ended up having to correct one of my most concerning issues with my downspouts myself to get what I wanted and so that it would look decent. They didn’t seem to have all that much concern with my concerns either and had I not done what I did I would have been very disappointed with the end result. Good thing I’m a master plumber and not completely reliant on their skills. On Thursday afternoon they told me they were ready to pour I was told that concrete was scheduled for Friday morning at 7:00am. After waiting until 8am Friday morning no one showed up. So I reached out again, where are you? “Oh concrete got cancelled and is rescheduled for next Wednesday didn’t the crew tell you?” Yeah ok, no they told me concrete was scheduled for 7am Friday. Thanks again for letting me know what’s going on. Well it did finally get poured that next Wednesday and everything was done by that next Friday and finally I’m through dealing with this miserable company. Again the end result was satisfactory but dealing with the estimators and office staff of this company is far from satisfactory. I can not recommend this company to anyone.

We used Carefree for our large backyard patio project. The experience was absolutely awful. The project was supposed to take 7 weeks, and took 6 months. Beware of their contract language, they can literally hold you financially and legally captive until the end of time because there is no end date to when they must complete their project. Trash from lunch was continually left in our yard when workers actually showed up to work. Large man sized holes that were dug in the backyard were never adequately covered up to prevent a person or animal from falling into the holes despite the fact that we complained multiple times about the safety issue. This is just the short list of complaints I have about the experience of working with this homegrown company.
