Do you own a large company where you have drivers going around the area in your company marked vehicle providing services to keep your doors open? When was the last time you checked the driving habits of those you have entrusted your company name on your company vehicle to? How do you handle a call from a person who is following your company vehicle at speeds over 100 MPH and weaving in and out of traffic? You would think the answers to these questions are easy, but let me share with you the WRONG way to handle or answer these questions. Recently, I was traveling (the speed limit) on the Turnpike (Friday January 18th, 2019 at 7:00am) I was passed by what looked like a dark blue Dodge Ram work truck with the business name of THERMA SEAL ROOF SYSTEMS out of West Palm Beach. This vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic and went past me (doing 65) as if I was standing still. At the wheel was a White/Hispanic male by himself. As I watched this driver weaving in and out slower traffic I could not help myself but think "That poor family who saved and scrimped to finally open their own business to have it all destroyed by the wreck less driving of the employee. So I called and spoke to a nice later when I finally caught up to the truck (which was doing 115 MPH) to get the number. She gave me a very concerned “I can’t believe one of our people would drive that way. I will get to the bottom of this right away. Thank you for calling. I asked her to have a supervisor contact me back to make sure the issue was taken care of and the driver was issued a warning from his boss. I gave her my cell number. That was at 7:00am on Friday. Here is it on Tuesday and I still have not heard from the supervisor. I even called back to give them a reminder to call me The moral of the story is this. If that driver crashes the vehicle and your company name is one it, please have a blank check ready for the victim’s family. This is a training issue and id totally avoidable. If someone calls and complains about the driving habits of your employees, it YOUR responsibility to document it and correct the issue. It’s you company! Don’t give it away. Always call people back when they call in a serious safety concern. It’s your job. -Thanks
